How we turned AirAsia's 6 AOCs into Southeast Asia's largest air network.

The Challenge

In 2018, AirAsia, Asia’s largest low-cost carrier, was a leader in passenger travel but saw potential to optimise its cargo operations. Operating 6 independent AOCs meant cargo operations were decentralised, leading to low load factors and inefficiencies. With a network optimised for passenger travel, cargo demand on many routes was naturally limited, leading to underutilised belly space in its aircraft.

The Solution

Teleport, Capital A’s logistics venture, consolidated AirAsia’s six AOCs into one connected air network.

The Results

One year later, in 2019, we teleported 1.24 million tonnes of cargo out of China through AirAsia passenger flights.

We grew AirAsia’s ancillary revenue from 2% (2018) to 6% (2023).

Together, we turned AirAsia’s 6 AOCs into Southeast Asia’s largest air logistics network: The Teleport Network.

  • Teleport Air Partners is a partnership model that has scaled to over 40 partners, offering airlines, freight forwarders and logistics providers access to Teleport’s extensive network, sales expertise, and operational capabilities.

  • Teleport is the logistics venture of Capital A Berhad, focused on air logistics and delivery services. While AirAsia focuses on passenger travel, Teleport manages and optimises cargo space across AirAsia’s fleet, ensuring efficient use of belly space for logistics. Additionally, Teleport partners with other airlines, freight forwarders, and logistics providers beyond AirAsia to expand the Teleport Network.

  • We partner with various entities that either operate or manage air cargo capacity including: (1) passenger or cargo airlines, (2) aircraft or freighter operators, (3) charter brokers, and (4) freight forwarders. If you want to optimise capacity, increase revenue, and expand your network, you're eligible.

Cargo & Shipping

  • A wide range of cargo types and sizes can be accommodated, but specific limitations depend on the air partner’s aircraft capacity and regulatory requirements. For details, click here.

  • Dangerous goods and special cargo are handled in compliance with IATA regulations and Teleport’s air partners’ policies. Ensure proper documentation and labeling before shipment, and consult the operations team for guidance.

  • Teleport can issue its own AWB or use the partner’s AWB, depending on the specific arrangement.

  • Tracking is available in real time via SmartKargo, an all-in-one digital system for cargo management that provides a seamless end-to-end tracking experience.

  • Teleport’s advanced dynamic capacity management system ensures every inch of cargo space is optimised. By leveraging real-time data, predictive analytics, and strategic partnerships, we balance demand and efficiency across our network to ensure higher load factors and minimal empty space.
